Finland experience
17-21.03.2025

In March 2025, the TE_REG consortium met in Helsinki for an intensive working week hosted by the University of Helsinki. The meeting combined internal project work with exchange and discussion with Finnish colleagues and stakeholders in teacher education.
A central focus was the discussion of GenAI and teacher standards as two key challenges for the further development of the project. The consortium worked on the WP2 drafts, reflected on the implications of GenAI for learning, teaching and assessment, and discussed how teacher education can move beyond rigid competence frameworks towards more integrated and future-oriented approaches.
The dissemination session at the University of Helsinki generated valuable input from participants. The feedback emphasised the need for teacher education institutions to integrate critical GenAI literacy into their curricula, support ethical and didactic AI use, promote exchange across institutions and develop more diverse forms of assessment. At the same time, participants warned against treating AI either as a threat or as a miracle solution, and against reducing assessment to text-based outputs.
The Helsinki meeting also opened important perspectives for the next phases of TE_REG. It provided input for the Manifesto, initiated first ideas for curriculum development in WP3 and supported early thinking about digital tools for change, including the possible development of a reflective TE_REG bot. The exchange in Helsinki was therefore an important step in connecting conceptual work with practical questions of teacher education in the GenAI era.
